Te Amorangi Mātauranga Matua, the TEC - is a small Crown agency with a big job to do - ensuring New Zealanders have the skills and the knowledge they need to build a great life, and ensure New Zealand thrives. We invest over $3 billion annually across the tertiary education and careers systems.
This role is part of our high-performing Business Analysis team in our Information Directorate, the engine room delivering the ICT infrastructure, data products, and tools that power TEC's ability to invest in education and champion learning.
As part of our Business Analysis whānau, you will collaborate across teams to co-design and deliver impactful solutions, continuously improve our systems and products, and help shapesmarter decision-making across TEC.
This role is suited to a professional with a proven track record in complex solution delivery, stakeholder engagement, and agile product development.
This is a permanent role which is strictly based in our offices in Wellington.
He angitūtanga: About the Role
This senior-level role requires strong customer focus and leadership in agile delivery environments. You'll be expected to operate autonomously, lead discovery workshops, and mentor other BAs while driving strategic outcomes.
This role has a strong customer focus and works closely with our customers and agile delivery teams. The key responsibilities of the role are to:
- Apply advanced modelling techniques to visualise current and future states
- Analyse process workflows to identify improvement opportunities
- Develop and manage high-quality requirements through the delivery process
- Support product owners in refining and manging product backlogs
- Lead requirements discovery workshops and develop user stories
- Act as a bridge between stakeholders and the development/data team

This role is ideal for a seasoned Business Analyst who thrives in technically complex environments and has a passion for data-driven decision-making. The ideal candidate for these roles will have a good mix of technical expertise, business acumen, and people skills.
We are specifically looking for candidates who skills and experience match the following criteria:
- At least 4-5 years of experience as a business analyst*
- Proven ability to work closely with technical teams in an agile or product-based environment
- Skilled in facilitating cross-functional workshops between technical teams and business users
- Strong reverse engineering and business logic validation skills
- Familiar with data modelling and translating between legacy and modern data architectures
- Skilled in writing user stories, acceptance criteria, and supporting backlog refinements
- A team-first attitude, always keen to support others and share knowledge
- A drive for professional excellence and growth
- IIBA-CCBA® or IIBA-CBAP® certification is desirable
*Please note: This Senior BA role is not suitable for entry-level applicants or those without prior direct experience in business analysis and agile delivery.

The salary range for this position starts from $104,653 up to $123,121 + 3% KiwiSaver depending on demonstrable skills and experience. Please note, if you believe you are good match for the role, but your salary expectations are outside of this range, we would still welcome an application from you.
