He angitūtanga: About the Role

As Principal Advisor Literacy & Numeracy, you will be the go-to expert driving TEC's work to strengthen adult literacy and numeracy across the tertiary education sector. This is a senior role where you will influence policy, lead strategic initiatives, and provide thought leadership to improve learner success.

Your day-to-day will include:

  • Leading the interpretation and implementation of key frameworks such as Learning Progressions and the Adult Literacy and Numeracy Assessment Tool (LNAAT).
  • Advising government agencies, tertiary education organisations (TEOs), and sector stakeholders.
  • Turning research evidence into practical strategies and interventions.
  • Representing TEC externally and building strong collaborative relationships.

This is a permanent role based at our National office in Wellington.

We are after someone who is passionate about making a difference and has the expertise to lead change in this critical area.

We are looking for someone who will bring the following:

  • Deep knowledge of adult literacy and numeracy, including NZ frameworks and international best practice.
  • Strong understanding of the tertiary education sector and its role in improving learner outcomes.
  • Proven experience leading complex projects and influencing policy at a senior level.
  • Exceptional analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to turn research evidence into practical strategies and advice.
  • Outstanding communication and relationship management skills, with a collaborative approach.

The salary range for this position starts from $128,284 up to $150,923 + 3% KiwiSaver. This salary is negotiable depending on demonstrable skills and experience.
